When you create a book
- Your name (as the author, which appears on the book cover)
- An “About the Author” description if you provide one
- Character names, descriptions and story ideas you enter
- Your email address (to send you your synopsis link and order updates)
- Your marketing preferences
When you place an order
- Full name and delivery address
- Email address
- Payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details)
Automatically collected
- Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited)
- Cookies necessary for the site to function
3. How We Use Your Data
- To fulfil your order — write, illustrate, print and deliver your book
- To contact you about your order — confirmation, dispatch and delivery updates
- To send your synopsis link — so you can return to a book you started
- To send marketing emails — only if you have explicitly opted in; you can unsubscribe at any time
- To improve our service — analysing usage patterns to make Storywizard better
- To comply with legal obligations — financial records, fraud prevention

5. Children’s Data
Storywizard is a service for children aged 7+ but orders must be placed by a parent or guardian aged 18 or over. We treat all data relating to children with the utmost care.
We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children. The story content (character names, story ideas) is treated as creative content rather than personal data about the child. Names used in stories are not stored as identity data.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal data about a child without appropriate consent, please contact us immediately at help@storywizard.uk.
6. Who We Share Your Data With
We share the minimum necessary data with trusted third-party processors:
- Stripe — payment processing. Stripe Privacy Policy
- Our print and fulfilment partner — an internationally recognised book printer. Your name and delivery address are shared solely to print and post your book.
- Resend — transactional email delivery
- Vercel / Vercel Blob — cloud hosting and secure file storage
- Anthropic / OpenAI / Replicate — AI services used to write and illustrate your book. Story content is processed but not retained by these providers beyond the generation request.
We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with any third party for marketing purposes.
7. Data Retention
- Order data — retained for 7 years for legal and financial compliance
- Marketing leads — retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion
- Generated books and PDFs — retained for 12 months to enable reprints
- Server logs — retained for 90 days
8. Your Rights Under UK GDPR
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Right to erasure — ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Right to restrict processing — ask us to limit how we use your data
- Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured format
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing
- Right to withdraw consent — withdraw marketing consent at any time

We take data security seriously. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Payment data is handled exclusively by Stripe and never touches our servers. Book files are stored in access-controlled cloud storage with encrypted connections.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be communicated by email where we hold your address.
