Accessibility Statement

1. What this covers

This statement applies to the website at storywizard.uk, including the form where a book is created, and to the printed book itself.

2. Where we stand

We are aiming at the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 level AA. This is a self-assessment. No third party has audited the site, and we will say so on this page when that changes rather than implying it has already happened.

3. What works today

• Form fields in the book creation flow are properly labelled, so a screen reader announces what each one is for.
• Decorative icons are hidden from screen readers rather than being read out as meaningless symbols.
• The site works at increased browser zoom and on a phone.
• Every field carries a worked example, so nobody has to guess what is wanted.
• A grown-up can complete the form on a child’s behalf. Nothing requires the child to type.
• Reading difficulty can be set independently of the story’s subject, so an easier read never means a babyish story or a younger-sounding hero.

4. What does not work yet

Being straight about the gaps is more use to a SENCO than a clean bill of health.

• No large print edition. Books are printed at one text size. A large print option is planned.
• No dyslexia-friendly print edition. Also planned — spacing and typeface, not a different story.
• No speech input. The story idea has to be typed, though a parent or teacher can type it.
• No spoken instructions through the creation flow.
• The site has not been tested end to end with every assistive technology. It has not been through a formal audit.

5. The printed book

Books are printed on cream paper rather than bright white, which reduces glare and is easier on the eye for many readers, including dyslexic readers. Illustrations are black and white line drawings, which is a deliberate choice and not a printing fault.

6. The audiobook

Every book can be ordered with a full narration of the whole story, read in a British voice you choose, emailed within 24 hours. For a child who cannot read the printed book, or cannot read it comfortably, this is the practical route in — and it arrives before the printed book does.

7. If something is in your way

Email help@storywizard.uk and say what you were trying to do and what stopped you. It goes to the director and is read by a person. If you need a book supplied in a form we do not currently offer, ask — we would rather solve it once for you than leave it on a list.

8. Review

This statement is reviewed whenever the creation flow or the print specification changes, and at least once a year. Approved by the director.
