In the Hundred Acre Wood live Winnie-the-Pooh, a bear of very little brain but enormous heart, and his friends — anxious Piglet, gloomy Eeyore, bouncy Tigger and the rest — whose gentle, funny adventures with honey, heffalumps and expeditions to the North Pole have enchanted children since 1926. A. A. Milne's classic is one of the warmest, wittiest books ever written for the young: the comedy works on two levels, delighting children with its silliness and adults with its sly wisdom, and the prose is a pure joy to read aloud. Nothing frightening ever happens; the Wood is a place of complete safety, friendship and gentle mishap. For a three- to six-year-old shared aloud — or an older child reading alone — it is a timeless treasure, the definitive introduction to characters who have become part of childhood itself, and a book that grown-ups often enjoy every bit as much as the children they are reading it to.
