Ottoline at Sea
by Chris Riddell
Mr Munroe has vanished, so Ottoline follows the clues to the docks and stows away on an ocean liner to find him.
A story about children and animals, wry and adventurous in tone. We would put it with children of 7–10, and at a reading age of about 8 for reading alone.

Part of a series
This is book 3 of the Ottoline series, so there is more to read if it goes down well — which is worth a great deal with a reluctant reader.
Our take on this book
When her faithful companion Mr Munroe goes missing, the resourceful Ottoline follows a trail of clues across the city and out to sea to find him, in a nearly wordless adventure told largely through Chris Riddell's astonishing pictures and a fold-out surprise. This second Ottoline book is even more of a visual treat than the first: much of the story is carried by the intricate, witty illustrations, which makes it wonderful for a child who is still building reading confidence, since the pictures do so much of the work. It is gently adventurous, with the mild worry of a lost friend resolved warmly and no real fright. For a seven- to ten-year-old — including a slightly reluctant reader — it is an enchanting, beautifully made book that proves how much story can be told in pictures, and the devotion between Ottoline and Mr Munroe gives it real heart. A distinctive, gorgeous series entry.

Or let them write their own.
Nothing gets a child reading like a story they invented themselves. Your child plans the characters and the plot, and we write, illustrate and print it as a real book with their name on the cover as the author.
